COMMANDER REMARKS:

As this VFW year comes to a close, I want to thank those in Post 2995 who have pitched in and taken the post to a higher level.  At the District 11 convention on May 17th, I accepted two major awards on behalf of this post.  First was a Veterans Supporting Veterans award:  the post and both auxiliaries were jointly recognized as the best in District 11.  As I said at Saturday’s installation of new post officers, I could not have wished for a better commander than Patrick Herward to follow, and I could not have wished for a better successor than Pat Murphy.  As I finish out my term, I want to emphasize that I won’t be going far.  I am on the Post Home Board for this next year.  Additionally, I will be helping the post from my new position as District 11 Junior Vice Commander, assisting Mike Gervais, the new commander, and Patrick Herward as the new senior vice.  As the two most recent commanders, Patrick and I are committed to being on the team that supports Pat Murphy in his success as a new commander.  Together, we will be part of the team that under Pat’s leadership will take this post to even higher levels of performance.

Thank all of you again for your support to the Post and the people we serve.

Best Regards

Tom Smith

Commander

WOMEN’S AUXILIARY

This is my last letter to you.  I want to thank each and every one of you for your support this year.  We had many hurdles to overcome and by working together we met these head on.

Many thanks to the sisters who worked on the Sunday breakfast.  Thank you so much.

I ask you to get behind your new president, Jennifer, and give her the support you gave to me.  If we continue to work together, no problem will be too big that we can’t overcome.

Best wishes to the new officers!!

Thank you once again.  God bless you.

Loyally Submitted,

Marie Asaif, President

Women’s Auxiliary

TROOP SUPPORT PROGRAM

On May 15 we had the honor to present Karen VanDeVeer with her award as the Washington State VFW Teacher of the Year.  There is no question parents could not find a more talented person to teach.  She has a trunk load of awards both for academic and community skills.  However, where she excels is her care for students.  When students complete her class they have acquired more than academic skills.  Even more important, you know you have a new friend who thinks you are important and want you to succeed in life. It was only fitting that Bryn Nelson and Avery Carmichael, two very bright high school students, presented her the award.

We had a very good month with generous donations for our troops.  Nancy McCormick gave us two checks of $1,000 each.  She is a council woman on the Redmond City Council.

Richard Bucheim, the Manager of Village Bartell drugstore has again initiated his store troop donation drive for us.  Thanks to his efforts we have received several thousand dollars worth of merchandise for our troops over the past two years.

Under the leadership of Chris Hoffman, the Redmond Chamber of Commerce plans to have their members dedicate the month of July to collecting items for our troops.  We are most grateful to these people, our post members, our students and our caring community members of our committee.  By working together we are making a difference.

I receive many e-mails from the troops.  It is nice that these troops take the time to thank us for thinking of them.

Thank you,

John Kenny

IT’S YOUR ORGANIZATION

Our VFW Post 2995  is involved in assisting many of their members and our people serving in harms way.  I am asked, often, “What can I do for the cause?”  Volunteers are always welcome, however, if you are unable to volunteer, the Post could use financial assistance with the many programs we support.  If you would like to help please write a check to the VFW POST 2995 and mail it to the address in the newsletter.  Your support will help enhance your post and it’s programs.  Any amount is welcome. Thank you.
