COMMANDER REMARKS:

I am finding out what it takes to handle the job.  I really appreciate the support received from all other officers and members.

Post 2995 has such a great potential when we work in unison. Our mission, as a Post, is to assist fellow veterans and their families.  We are currently doing this by holding a barbecue in honor of Purple Heart veterans from Ft. Lewis.  Also we are helping families with the Relief Fund monies and the Support the Troops are sending packages overseas.  All this is because we are working together.

There is more room for volunteers.  So I encourage you to join in helping others.

Pat Murphy

Commander Post 2995

TROOP SUPPORT PROGRAM

Bob Richard, a Post member wants us to know that there exists at Ft. Lewis a very special place called “SANTA’S CASTLE.”  This is a group of military wives who, throughout the year, gather cash donations and free NEW toys for our troops.  The Castle contacts the units in the area to include all forces.  This facility supports military E5 and below and their families.  After the units quality their people, the family member, active duty person or spouse, is given a date and time to come to the Castle and shop FREE for their families.

Last year Santa’s Castle serviced over 600 families and 2000 children.  It is my honor to represent veterans in supporting the troops and their families.

We look forward to any support Post 2995 would like to provide for the coming year.

IT’S YOUR ORGANIZATION

Our VFW Post 2995  is involved in assisting many of their members and our people serving in harms way.  I am asked, often, “What can I do for the cause?”  Volunteers are always welcome, however, if you are unable to volunteer, the Post could use financial assistance with the many programs we support.  If you would like to help please write a check to the VFW POST 2995 and mail it to the address in the newsletter.  Your support will help enhance your post and it’s programs.  Any amount is welcome. Thank you.

THE KOREAN KID

A Korean man about 50 years old came into the Post and told the story of American GIs helping him during the Korean war.  He said they clothed him and gave him food and eventually took him to an orphanage where he was safe.  What a touching story!  He carried the picture below with him for all these years.  His name is Bob Rue and he would like to find out where the men in the picture are at this time to thank them.  Contact Post 2995 newsletter chairman if you know about these soldiers.
